In this 2-day workshop, you will learn strategies to teach students news media literacy as a tool to promote civic engagement.  Sessions will focus on New York’s Freedom of Information Laws (FOIL), 1st Amendment protections and responsibilities, editorial decision-making, confirmation bias, and the role of algorithms in social media.  This workshop will be relevant to K-12 teachers of Social Studies, English, Reading teachers and School Librarians/Media Specialists.
