Coming to America: The Jewish Immigration Experience (1880-1924)

Presentation Description: Immigrants have come to the U.S. throughout history from many different places and for many different reasons. This session will explore a particular group’s immigration story at a significant moment in time—Jewish people in the early 20th century. Through this interactive session, teachers will receive the context for Jewish immigration between 1880-1924, discuss the various push and pull factors that brought Jewish immigrants to America, explore the cultural pressures and contributions of Jewish Americans, and grapple with the repercussions of the 1924 Immigration Act.

Presenter: Dori Gerber, Institute for Curriculum Services
