Literary Legends of Albany

Tuesday, August 29 @ 5:15 pm

This event was originally scheduled as a walking tour.  Due to poor air conditions and the fickle mood of Mother Nature, we have decided to move this event indoors at Nine Pin Cider Works!!

Join members of the Capital District Council for the Social Studies for an educational and entertaining night out!

When we talk about Albany’s literary legacy, most Albany residents turn to “Albany’s Son”, William Kennedy – and with good reason! Albany has played muse to Kennedy, including inspiring the Pulitzer Prize winning novel, Ironweed. But Kennedy shares company with a litany of literary luminaries who found inspiration from the unassumingly fantastical Capital Region. Join Maeve McEneny-Johnson for walking presentation to celebrate both the fact AND the fiction of Albany’s historic literary past. Along with William Kennedy, Maeve will discuss the local connections of Herman Melville, Henry James, Gregory Maguire, Vladimir Nabokov, Charlayne Woodard…and more!

Participants should plan to arrive at Nine Pin Cider Works at 929 Broadway, Albany, NY 12207 by 5:15 pm.  NOTE: Each attendee will be allowed a 4 flight tasting of cider or mocktail of equivalent value as part of their paid admission! Additional food or beverage purchases will be the responsibility of the individual.

Please reserve - only 25 spaces available!

PLEASE NOTE: Food and beverages are not included in the registration fee for this event, but may be purchased at your own expense.
