A Hybrid seminar for certified middle and high school teachers

TEACHING ABOUT THE HAMAS/ISRAEL WAR

With Professor Stephen M. Berk

Registration Deadline is Monday, October 30

Overview

We invite you to join us as Professor Berk guides teachers through the tragic Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the events
that have unfolded since.  Expand your knowledge base with relevant information presented in ways that reinforce best practices for instruction. All participants will be given access to the Institute for Curriculum Services (ICS) resources to help guide classroom lesson planning. CTLE credit will be provided by the CDCSS.

Following Prof. Berk's lecture, participants will be encouraged to take part in an interactive discussion. Those attending via Zoom will be invited to share either via chat or invited to unmute themselves.  This conversation will help unpack ways to share these current events with students with sensitivity and understanding in an age-appropriate way. In such challenging times, it is vital as Social Studies educators that we allow time and space for these difficult but vitally important conversations with our students.

Speaker: Professor Stephen M. Berk from Union College, an internationally respected authority on the Middle East.

Session Date

Weds., Nov. 1, 4- 6 pm

Registration of $5 is required for all participants. We are unable to accommodate walk-ins.

Those attending via Zoom will be sent a link the morning of the event.

Those planning to attend in person should plan to arrive about 10 minutes early to allow for check-in.

If attending in person, a light supper, including a vegetarian option will be provided.

Sponsored by the Capital District Council for the Social Studies and the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York.
